The main cause of angina
pectoris is the gradual narrowing and hardening of coronary vessels
(atherosclerosis).
But there are also other
causes, even if less frequent:
Coronary
spasm: this causes the reduction of blood flow in the coronaries
due to narrowing without obstruction. Its cause is suspected to stem
from nervous origin (fright, stress or depression).
Dilating
myocardiopathy: an extreme situation in which the heart tends to
increase its own volume for unknown reasons.
Tachycardia
(increase of heart rate) or arrhythmia (irregular heart
beat).
Arterial
hypertension.
Aortic valve
problems (stenosis or narrowing).
Pulmonary
causes.
Gastrointestinal causes.
