Dental abscess
Symptoms

The main symptom of a dental abscess is severe pain that is usually intense, throbbing and continuous. It gets worse during chewing or while lying down.

A dental abscess is often accompanied by a swelling of the cheek. This is due to pus spreading into the soft tissues of the mouth and face. The pain subsides with facial swelling. In gingival abscess, both the cheek and the gums swell.

Other symptoms associated with a dental abscess are:

  • A bitter taste in the mouth.
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold.
  • Sensitivity to touch or pressure, even light pressure.
  • Fever
  • A general feeling of listlessness.
  • Swelling of lymph nodes.
