The main symptom of pulpitis is pain. Its quality and level depend on the severity of the disease.
Generally, the pain is:
- Acute and throbbing, intensifying as the inflammation progresses.
- Continuous or intermittent.
- Exacerbated by heat and external stimuli.
- Relieved by cold.
Sometimes it is difficult to identify the diseased tooth.
Usually, pulpitis results from tooth decay; therefore, decay is observable on the tooth. The dental pulp can be exposed in the lesion. In severe cases of pulpitis, bleeding and pus formation can occur.
